Since 1922, the Buddy Poppy has been an integral part of the VFW community. As the VFW’s official memorial flower, the Poppy represents the blood shed by American service members. It reiterates that VFW will not forget their sacrifices.

The Buddy Poppies we distribute are made by disabled, hospitalized, and aging veterans. VFW pays the disabled veteran for the work. In most cases, this extra money provides additional income for the worker to pay for the little luxuries, which make hospital life more tolerable. Furthermore, Poppy assembly is often used as a therapy program to provide exercise for fingers and hands crippled by wounds, disease, and the effects of old age.
Buddy Poppies are distributed by volunteers and they are free of charge to the recipient.

Any donations that VFW Post 3150 receives from Poppy distribution go directly to the assistance of needy veterans and members of the Armed Forces and their dependents, widows, and orphans (i.e. the Post Relief Fund).

Buddy Poppy distribution is all about veterans helping veterans, connecting with our community, and living up to the VFW’s motto of “Honor the Dead by Helping the Living.”
