The Memorial was Dedicated in 1925 by the Daughters of the American Revolution. It honors the memories of five men killed in World War I. The men were from Cherrydale, Virginia. Cherrydale later was absorbed as part of Arlington, Virginia. The names of the men who lost their lives is inscribed below:

Lt. John Lyon
Lt. Irving T.C. Newman
Frederick Wallis Schutt
Archibald Walters Williams
Privt. Harry E. Vermillion
