Post Commander Greg Moscater presents two high chairs to Maurise Borde at the Fisher House in Washington, DC. It was discovered that Fisher House, a home away from home for the families of many recovering soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, was lacking some high chairs for the youngest of visiting family members when the Post sought to help out. A U.S. flag, which flew over the Kabul Compound in Kabul, Afghanistan, on February 25, 2005, during Operation Enduring Freedom, hangs in the Post home. The flag was sent to the Post by a neighbor currently serving in Kabul.
The Post continues to welcome soldiers, recovering from war injuries at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and their families during Sunday brunches. A number have been repeat visitors, and they really enjoy the hours away from the hospital. The breakfasts have been paid for through donations to the Post. About 30 were hosted on a Sunday in February 2005. Adjutant J. Gary Wagner, two gentlemen from DHL courier services, Gen (ret) Gordon R. Sullivan, President of AUSA, and CSM (ret) Donald Thomas check out a cache of sports equipment destined for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. A soldier's plea for new or used sports equipment made its way to the Louisville Slugger company, the VFW, and the Association of the U.S. Army, among other organizations, and lead to a drive for the sports equipment. The Post did a quick collection and donated members' unused equipment and made a cash donation to buy more. Part of the equipment from all sources is seen in the background.
