Supporting Our Troops - Page 1
John Lyon members Ruth Rodier, Jack Turner, Margaret Dozier, and Martha Tingler check out some of the new clothes donated by members for soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. The Red Cross requested donations for injured soldiers arriving at Walter Reed with little more than the clothes on their backs. Two boxes of clothing were delivered to Walter Reed by Ralph Huston, Steve Cobb, Bill Wolverton, J. Gary Wagner, (Red Cross Volunteer), Cathy Kerns, and, sitting, Tanya Cobb. Eighty-seven tee shirts were donated by Cathy Graham's employer, T-Shirts Etc. And some savvy members found some great items on sale, making the delivery worth more than the nearly $1000 ticket value. Post 3150 members also visited a friend of Post member Donald Gordon, who was serving in the war zone, and two other members of his unit.
Presenting a new sweatshirt to recuperating Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran Sgt Allen Brunner (second from right) are John Lyon members Nina Wilkinson, J. Gary Wagner, and Jim Wilkinson. The presentation occurred at the Red Cross Office at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Sweatshirts, razors, and other items were donated or purchased by the VFW, the Arlington County Police Department, and members for injured soldiers evacuated to the States from Iraqi battlefields and were recently delivered to Walter Reed. Several members, including 2003-2004 3150 Chaplain Steve Cobb (left), have been greeting arriving wounded military personnel from Iraq and Afghanistan at Andrews Air Force Base, and at area military hospitals several times a week. Steve is shown with CWO2 Benjamin Luster of Marine Liaison Office at the Internet Cafe room with t-shirts donated by the Post. New t-shirts, travel-size toiletry items, etc., are needed and welcome for these traveling wounded military personnel. A drop-off box has been set up at the Post home. Financial donations for this purpose can also be made to the Post.
