Service Birthdays
Michael Holtz, Junior Vice Commander and Iraqi Freedom veteran (second from the right), reads the Army Chief of Staff's greetings during the U.S. Army Birthday celebration held at the Post. Other Army veterans or family members include (from the left) Ralph Turpin, Ladies Auxiliary President Karen Stewart, Tommy Saunders, and Joe McGrail. The Army Birthday followed the Post's annual Flag Day celebration of Old Glory. Commander Eric Anderson and Ladies Auxiliary President Karen Stewart cut the U.S. Coast Guard cake during ceremonies marking the 216th Birthday of what once was known as the Revenue Cutter Service among other names.
J. Gary Wagner and Jodie LaFreniere-Dajc cut the cake during the Air Forces Birthday celebration. The event not only marked the 69th Birthday of the U.S. Air Force, but also honored those of the Army Air Service, Army Air Corps, and the Army Air Force. Wagner is retired Air Force and Dajc is the daughter of a retired Air Force veteran. Navy veterans M.C. "Connie" Agresti, Eric Anderson, and Shirley McAlhaney gather around the Navy Birthday cake in preparation to making the first cut. The Sea Service's Birthday celebration began with the reading of SECNAV's and the CNO's Greetings, and continued with a sailor's moving recollection of being part of the Navy, and finished with the cake.
As the youngest and oldest Marines present, Jeffrey Sullivan and Ralph Huston, both members of Post 3150, prepare to make the first cut in the cakes commemorating the Birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps on 10 November. Huston served during the World War II, and Sullivan, a new member to Post 3150, in Iraq. Gene Miller emcees the evening and watches from the left.
